- As if things weren't hard enough for Seattle residents and families, Council considers expanded regulations and penalties for households that employ domestic workers
The amendments reflect the Office of Labor Standards’ (OLS’s) intention to strengthen worker protections. CB 121266 would require “hiring entities” (i.e. families) to provide detailed contracts before work starts, three years of records, advance notice before termination, and steeper penalties, shifting the burden of proof onto them in a dispute.

- Council regulates rental housing fees, prohibiting landlords from charging any fee not explicitly listed as “approved,” including pet fees
On Aug. 3, the Housing Committee recommended passage of CB 121254 which also also caps fees, sets enforcement and landlord penalties, expands SDCI's investigation authority, establishes tenant right to private action, among other provisions. [Update: adopted by City Council Aug. 11 on 8:0 vote]
