The organization

CivicTide is the public brand of SeaFor, a nonprofit social welfare organization incorporated in Washington State and recognized under Section 501(c)(4) of the Internal Revenue Code. The Firehose is its flagship public product.

Not a political committee

The Firehose is not a political committee under Washington's campaign-finance law (RCW 42.17A) or federal election law. It does not expressly advocate for or against any candidate in an active race. It does not coordinate editorial decisions with any candidate, campaign, political party, or political committee.

If a separate committee is ever formed

CivicTide may, in the future, support a separately incorporated and separately funded political committee. Any such committee would operate on different infrastructure, with different staff, separate funding, and at a different domain. The Firehose's reader list, editorial workflow, and analytics would not be shared with it. This separation is built into the codebase, not just stated as policy.

CivicTide additionally supports separately-filed endorsement and independent-expenditure activity, disclosed at action.civictide.org. That activity operates on distinct infrastructure with a separate subscriber list, separate analytics, and separate financial accounts. Nothing on this site (The Firehose) is coordinated with any candidate committee, and no subscriber data collected here is shared across that boundary.

Funding

CivicTide's c4 activities are funded by contributions from individuals and grants. We do not solicit reader contributions through the Firehose. Donor inquiries are handled at the CivicTide organization site at civictide.org, not on this site.
